Most often, it's harmless and related to dryness or skin irritation. Keep the area moisturized with a gentle, fragrance-free baby lotion. Avoid using harsh soaps or overbathing. If the patches spread, become scaly, or your baby seems uncomfortable, consult your pediatrician or a dermatologist to rule out any infection or skin condition that may need treatment.
