Q.

sir my 6 months baby had vaccination yesterday. there was mild fever but now she is fine. is it mandatory to give calpol for babies after vaccination or should we wait for body to fight fever? thanks in advance

A. Post vaccination swelling may be a common thing specially after DPT vaccine which may be painful for two or three days and the swellfing may remain even up to month so if it is not causing any pain or other symptoms nothing to worry. Swelling can be reduced by giving ice ffomentation locally and paracetamol can be given for fever or pain. Thrombophobe ointment can be applied in acute pain and swelling .

A. It is recommended to administer syrup paracetamol to the child in case of fever (axillary temperature > 38 oC/100.4 oF or feels hot to touch) following vaccination at 1½ months, 2½ months and 3½ months (first, second and third doses of pentavalent) and at 16-24 months and 5-6 years
