Posting on behalf of my friend. Her son is almost 8 months old and is under weight. Doctor suggested to give him high calorie diet. He is a poor eater and drinks less milk also. She has tried giving him formula along with BM but he refuses to take it. Please share your suggestions on how to increase his appetite and high calorie diet foods.

A. for good Growth of the child it is important that the child should get proper nutritional requirement which is very important for the growing child specially iron and vitamin D is required for better growth and cognition . also there is role of other micronutrients. one should ensure that the child should get a proper balanced diet which contains all types of nutrients essential for grotwth. any kind of infection specially any chronic infection should be ruled out and treatedh which may hamper the growth otherwise. after 2 years of age you can give some powder like kids Pro/ prohance junior mix in milk twice a day for one or two months.

A. Hello dear parent! Persistent loss of appetite can often indicate vitamin deficiency in the child. It is advisable to consult doctor for a personal evaluation and seek further advice. Follow your doctor’s advice diligently. Give the child a well balanced healthy diet and keep hydrated all through the day. Good luck and take care.
