A. Hand flapping in a 3-month-old baby can be a normal reflex, but it can also be a sign of: 1. *Overstimulation*: Babies may flap their hands when overwhelmed or excited. 2. *Motor skill development*: Hand flapping can be a precursor to crawling and hand-eye coordination. 3. *Sensory exploration*: Babies use hand flapping to explore their surroundings and learn about cause-and-effect. 4. *Communication*: Hand flapping can be a way for babies to express excitement, curiosity, or distress. However, in some cases, hand flapping can be a sign of: 1. *Sensory processing issues*: Some babies may flap their hands due to sensory overload or difficulty processing stimuli. 2. *Neurodevelopmental disorders*: In rare cases, hand flapping can be an early indicator of conditions like autism or Rett syndrome. If you're concerned about your baby's hand flapping, consult your pediatrician to rule out any underlying conditions. They will assess your baby's overall development and provide guidance. Keep in mind that every baby develops at their own pace, and hand flapping is a common behavior in infants. If you have any concerns, always consult your pediatrician.
