Mom of a 4 yr 6 m old boy4 years ago
Q.

My son is 3 month 25 days old. He passes stools once in 7-9 days. He becomes cranky 2-3 days before passing stools and also the gas he passes becomes smelly. He is on exclusive breast feeding. Stools are pasty in consistency and in very large amount. We massage his stomach and back twice daily. Please suggest a way so that he regularly passes stools and does not accumulate it in his bowels.

A. If your baby seems constipated, consider simple dietary changes: Water or fruit juice. Offer your baby a small amount of water or a daily serving of 100 percent apple, prune or pear juice in addition to usual feedings. These juices contain sorbitol, a sweetener that acts like a laxative.
