A. mumps is a type of viral infection. it is due to infection in the parotid gland which is type of salivary gland. it is a self limiting illness and the child will imxprove in 4 to 7 days. it can involve one side or both sides of the jaw where parotid gland is present. symptomatic treatment is given in thex form of paracetamol and warm compress can be done to decrease the swelling. please remain in contact with your doctor for treatment. it can be prevented by giving mmr vaccination.
