A. Cough is a protective reflex of the body to expel out the mucus or any irritant factor from the respiratory tract which is most of the time assosiated with cold due to any viral or bacterial infection . A proper examination is required to find the cause . As a home remedy you can start with steam inhalation . Cough can be treated witnhh cough suppressant or antitussives as per the cause. For cold antihistamines are useful and nasal saline drops are also benifecial .

A. Antibiotic need not be started on the very first day of cold. Also antibiotics are not prescribed if it is due to a viral infection. So unless it was prescribed by ur Pediatrician please don't start it. As a home remedy, Take a cup of water with well cleaned tulsi leaves and black betel leaves and Indian borage leaves in it along with black pepper. Boil this mixture until the water is reduced to half. Then once the water is lukewarm u can filter it and give it to ur child.
