A mechanical problem in the child's throat or intestinal track may affect his or her willingness to swallow solids or ability to digest anything but a liquid diet. Feeding aversions develop as the result of early unpleasant oral experiences. It can also result if something about the solid food feeding experience feels unpleasant to the child. Let the child eat on her or his own. Give him or her a spoon and a bowl to eat. Let her or him try to eat on his or her own. Let her or him create a mess and this is how he or she will learn to eat independently. Encourage him or her to touch the food but do not force. If he or she refuses, try and try again. Be consistent and patient. Avoid all distractions during meal time like TV, laptop, cell phones and tablets. Make meal times a positive learning experience for the child. Let the child sit with the family and learn to eat food after seeing his or her parents enjoy the food cooked. Let her or him be a part of meal preparations like setting up the table or selecting the vegetables for preparing the meal.
