ExpertDr. Minal AcharyaNutritionist4 years agoA. weight and chubby child is not the only indicator of good health. if child is active playful, achieving growth milestones, not falling sick frequently, then do not worry.
child's rate of growth is also dependent on genetics or how his parents have been in their childhood,. parents body frame.
for healthy weight child should be having a balanced diet having all the food groups
childs daily diet should have:
cereals starch like rice wheat corn , sago, Limited amount of bread
at least 2 serving of good protein like pulses beans egg soya , milk and Milk products, fish chicken, meat
variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables and green leafy vegetables
energy dense fruits and vegetables like banana , custard apple, Chiku, sweet potato more frequently
Nuts like almond ,dry fruits, peanuts, cashew nuts, walnuts.
at least 500 ml of full fat milk which also includes Milk products, so 1-2 glasses of milk and rest as paneer or cheese or curd.
add ghee on top of food to provide more energy
avoid fruit juices and thin soup as they fill up the stomach and provide less nutrition.
don't be tempted to provide energy rich but unhealthy foods like sweet chocolate cake sugary juices avoid intake of junk and packet foods
encourage child to eat variety of food and finish all that is served on plate , picky children are less likely to have optimal health
Children have smaller stomachs than adults and need to eat smaller amounts more frequently.
4-5 meals a day with 2 smaller snacks at regular intervals is good.
Important to maintain good hygiene especially hand washing with soap before eating.
