A. To help your 10-month-old baby gain weight, it's essential to provide a balanced diet that includes calorie-dense foods and a variety of nutrients. Here’s a guide on suitable foods and tips for promoting healthy weight gain:
1. High-Calorie Foods:
Incorporate these foods into your baby’s diet to increase calorie intake:
Healthy Fats:
Ghee or Butter: Add small amounts to vegetables or rice.
Avocado: Mash or puree and serve as a spread or mixed into other foods.
Nut Butters (if no allergies): Use smooth peanut butter or almond butter spread on toast or mixed into porridge.
Dairy Products:
Full-Fat Yogurt: Offer plain yogurt as a snack or mixed with fruits.
Cheese: Serve small pieces of cheese or grated cheese over meals.
Protein Sources:
Eggs: Scrambled or boiled eggs can be a good source of protein.
Chicken or Fish: Cook and finely shred or puree; serve with vegetables or rice.
Carbohydrates:
Bananas: Rich in calories and can be mashed or served as is.
Oats: Cooked oats can be made creamy with milk or yogurt.
Rice and Lentils: Serve khichdi (a mix of rice and lentils) with added ghee for extra calories.
2. Sample Meal Ideas:
Breakfast:
Oats cooked in milk with mashed banana and a little ghee.
Mid-Morning Snack:
Full-fat yogurt mixed with fruit puree or soft fruit pieces.
Lunch:
Khichdi made with rice, lentils, and vegetables, drizzled with ghee.
Evening Snack:
Scrambled egg with finely chopped vegetables or small pieces of cheese.
Dinner:
Mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes mixed with butter, served with soft cooked vegetables.
3. Feeding Tips:
Frequent Meals: Offer smaller, frequent meals throughout the day rather than three large ones.
Encourage Self-Feeding: Allow your baby to explore food textures and flavors by self-feeding. This can make mealtime more enjoyable.
Limit Distractions: Try to have calm and focused mealtime without distractions from screens or toys.
Stay Patient: Some babies may be picky or slow eaters. Keep offering a variety of foods, and don't force them to eat.
4. Monitor Progress:
Regular Weigh-Ins: Keep track of your baby’s weight regularly and consult your pediatrician for guidance on healthy weight gain.
5. Consult Your Pediatrician:
If you are concerned about your baby's weight or growth, it's essential to discuss it with your pediatrician. They can assess your baby's overall health and recommend a personalized plan if needed.
By incorporating these foods and practices into your baby’s diet, you can help support healthy weight gain while ensuring a balanced nutrition profile.
