Q.

my baby was 2 months old and she didn't pass the motion can I give gripe water for gas release and motion pass.

A. it is not advisable to give gripe water to the child on the regular basis because at the end it is a type of medicine which will help in decreasing the colic pain and improve digestion but yes it has got side effects so do not give this without medical consultation. it contains sodium bicarbonate as well as plenty of sugars which has got side effects for such a small child. It is very normal that infants and newborns may not pass stool for more than 10 days also ands sometimes the frequency can be around 6 to 7 times per day also. Both the above frequency of stool passage is normal if the consistency of the stool is semi solid to solid. if the consistencyd is not hard then it is not constipation and intermittent crying is due to the colic pain due to gas
