A. Your baby's weight gain is slightly on the lower side, but it's still within a manageable range. Ideally, newborns should gain about 500-1000 grams per month in the first six months. Since your baby has gained only 480 grams in one month, it's important to check a few factors: Possible Reasons for Poor Weight Gain: Low Milk Intake: If your baby is not drinking enough breast milk or formula, weight gain may be slow. Latching Issues: If breastfeeding, check if your baby is latching properly and getting enough milk. Feeding Frequency: A newborn should be fed every 2-3 hours (8-12 times a day). Digestive Issues: If your baby has vomiting, reflux, or frequent loose stools, absorption of nutrients may be affected. Underlying Medical Issues: If your baby seems weak, inactive, or sick often, consult a pediatrician. What You Can Do to Improve Weight Gain: Breastfeeding Moms: Ensure a good latch, offer both breasts per feed, and maintain skin-to-skin contact for better feeding. Formula-fed Babies: If you are giving formula, ensure it's the correct ratio (not diluted) and fed at the right intervals. Increase Feeding Frequency: Feed every 2 hours during the day and at least once at night to boost weight gain. Monitor Diaper Count: Your baby should have at least 6-8 wet diapers per day, which shows good hydration and nutrition. Check for Growth Spurts: Some babies have slow growth in one month but catch up in the next. When to See a Doctor: If your baby: Is not feeding well or gets tired quickly while feeding. Has very few wet diapers (less than 5-6 per day). Looks weak, inactive, or irritable. Has frequent vomiting, diarrhea, or signs of illness. If weight gain doesn’t improve in the next few weeks, consult a pediatrician to rule out any underlying concerns.
