POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy1 Year agoA. Here's a simple Indian-style porridge recipe suitable for a 6-month-old baby who is transitioning to solid foods. This porridge is both nutritious and easy to digest:
**Ingredients:**
- 2 tablespoons of rice
- 1/4 cup of moong dal (split green gram)
- A small piece of carrot, finely chopped
- A small piece of potato, finely chopped
- A pinch of turmeric (optional, for flavor)
- A pinch of cumin seeds (optional, for flavor)
- Ghee (clarified butter) for added nutrition (optional)
- Water
**Instructions:**
1. Wash the rice and moong dal separately and soak them in water for about 30 minutes.
2. In a saucepan, combine the soaked rice and moong dal. Add the chopped carrot and potato.
3. Add water to the mixture. The amount of water depends on the desired consistency, but a good starting point is to use about 1.5 to 2 cups of water for every 2 tablespoons of rice and 1/4 cup of moong dal.
4. You can add a pinch of turmeric and cumin seeds for flavor if you like. Turmeric is also known for its health benefits.
5. Cook the mixture over low to medium heat, stirring occasionally. If using a pressure cooker, cook for a couple of whistles.
6. Once the rice, dal, and vegetables are well-cooked and have a porridge-like consistency, you can mash or blend them for a smoother texture, depending on your baby's preference and ability to chew.
7. If you choose to add ghee, you can stir in a small amount just before serving to provide extra nutrition.
8. Allow the porridge to cool to a suitable temperature for your baby and feed it to them in small, age-appropriate portions.
Always make sure that the porridge is cooled to a safe temperature for your baby, and test it before feeding to avoid any burns. Additionally, consult with your pediatrician before introducing new foods to your baby's diet and follow their recommendations for your baby's specific needs.
