A. If your 10-month-old baby is gaining only 300 grams per month, but is active and meeting developmental milestones, it may not be a big concern. However, you can boost weight gain with nutrient-dense foods and a well-balanced diet. 1. High-Calorie, Nutrient-Dense Foods for Weight Gain ✔ Breastmilk or Formula: Continue as the main source of nutrition. ✔ Ghee & Butter: Add to khichdi, dal, or mashed potatoes. ✔ Banana & Avocado: High in healthy fats and easy to digest. ✔ Full-Fat Dairy: Curd, paneer, cheese (if tolerated). ✔ Egg Yolk: Start with well-cooked yolk (if no allergy risk). ✔ Dal & Pulses: Moong dal, masoor dal, or dal khichdi with ghee. ✔ Nut Powder: Almond or cashew powder mixed in porridge or milk. ✔ Sweet Potatoes & Pumpkin: Soft, easy-to-digest, and calorie-dense. ✔ Ragi & Oats Porridge: Rich in calcium and iron. ✔ Homemade Cerelac: Mix rice, dal, nuts, and ghee. 2. Feeding Schedule (Approximate) ✅ Early Morning (7 AM): Breastmilk/Formula ✅ Breakfast (9 AM): Ragi/oats porridge with ghee ✅ Mid-Morning (11 AM): Mashed banana or avocado ✅ Lunch (1 PM): Dal khichdi with ghee & veggies ✅ Evening (4 PM): Curd with mashed fruit or paneer cubes ✅ Dinner (7 PM): Rice & dal mash or sweet potato puree ✅ Night (Before Bedtime): Breastmilk/Formula 3. Additional Strategies for Weight Gain ✔ Offer small, frequent meals instead of large portions. ✔ Include energy-rich snacks like mashed fruits, dry fruit powder, or paneer. ✔ Encourage self-feeding with soft finger foods like banana slices or boiled potatoes. ✔ Avoid excess water or juices before meals as they reduce appetite. ✔ Massage your baby regularly to improve digestion and boost weight gain. 4. When to Consult a Doctor? ❌ If weight gain is completely stagnant for more than 2 months. ❌ If the baby is not active, lethargic, or refusing food consistently. ❌ If the baby has frequent diarrhea, vomiting, or digestion issues.
