POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy6 months agoA. A high fever in a 1-year-5-month-old child who is refusing food but drinking plenty of water could be due to a viral or bacterial infection. Here’s what you can do:
Immediate Steps:
Monitor Fever:
If the fever is above 100.4°F (38°C), give paracetamol (acetaminophen) as per your doctor’s advice (dosage based on weight). Keep checking the temperature every 4-6 hours.
Hydration is Key:
Since your baby is drinking plenty of water, that's a good sign. Offer ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution), coconut water, or soups to maintain electrolyte balance.
Light, Easy-to-Digest Foods (If Acceptable):
If your baby refuses solid food, offer fruit purees, curd, dal water, or mashed potatoes. Don't force-feed; let them eat when they feel ready.
Sponge Bath for Fever:
If the fever goes above 102°F (38.9°C), sponge your child with lukewarm (not cold) water to help bring down the temperature. When to See a Doctor?
Take your child to a pediatrician if:
Fever persists for more than 3 days. Baby is lethargic, irritable, or extremely weak. Not urinating as usual (sign of dehydration). Vomiting, diarrhea, rash, breathing issues, or seizures occur.
