A. Hearing loss can be temporary. But when it's not, there are technologies, therapies, and other treatments to help. Devices like hearing aids and cochlear implants can improve a child's ability to hear. Learning sign language or speech reading can also make it easier to communicate.Delayed or absent speech development is the most important clue indicating a possible hearing loss in the very young child. Identifying hearing loss in the infant and young child requires watching for critical developmental milestones.Set up testing somewhere in the home that is quiet and free from distractions - turn the TV off and sit away from noisy fridges and air conditioning units. A little background noise is okay, but keep it to a minimum as it may impact results. Make sure your child has a full tummy and is well-rested!For people with type of hearing loss, hearing aids are the gold standard treatment. In some cases, cochlear implants or bone-anchored hearing aids may be recommended. While it's normal to gradually lose hearing as you get older, it's not a good idea to leave it untreated.Gain your child's attention before speaking. Try to make sure that they are focused on listening before speaking to them.Face your child when speaking. ... Limit excessive distracting noise where possible. ... Ensure you child's teacher is aware of the hearing loss and implications in the classroom.
