A. If your 10-month-old baby has been experiencing fever for 4-5 days, it is important to closely monitor his symptoms and seek medical attention, as prolonged fever can be a sign of an underlying infection. Here are a few things you can do to manage the fever at home, but do consult your pediatrician to determine the cause: Steps to Help Your Baby: 1. Monitor the Temperature: Use a digital thermometer to monitor your baby’s temperature. A fever is generally considered as a temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher. 2. Keep Him Hydrated: Ensure your baby is drinking plenty of fluids, such as water, breast milk, or formula, to stay hydrated. Dehydration can worsen fever. 3. Dress Your Baby Lightly: Avoid over-wrapping your baby in blankets or clothes, as this can trap heat. Dress him in light, breathable clothes to help regulate his body temperature. 4. Keep the Room Cool: Keep the room well-ventilated and cool. You can use a fan or keep the windows open, but avoid making the room too cold. 5. Fever Medication: If the fever is high or making your baby uncomfortable, you may give infant acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil) as per your pediatrician’s recommendations. Never give aspirin to children under 18 due to the risk of Reye's syndrome. 6. Sponging with Lukewarm Water: You can try sponging your baby with lukewarm water (not cold water), as this may help bring down the fever. Avoid ice-cold baths, as they can cause shivering and raise body temperature. 7. Observe Other Symptoms: Pay attention to other symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, rashes, or difficulty breathing. These could indicate a more serious condition that requires medical attention. When to Contact a Doctor: If the fever persists for more than 3 days. If your baby is younger than 3 months and has a fever. If the fever is accompanied by severe discomfort, lethargy, rash, vomiting, or trouble breathing. If the fever exceeds 104°F (40°C). Since your baby’s fever has lasted for several days, it’s important to consult with a pediatrician to identify the cause and provide the appropriate treatment.
