Permanent teeth at the front of the mouth are wider than the primary teeth that they'll replace so if there's not enough space, the permanent tooth won't have room to come in.

Timing isn't that important; however, if your baby still has no teeth by the age of 18 months, it may be time to see a pediatric dentist for an evaluation. In most cases, delayed tooth eruption is no real concern. However, it is still a good idea to get a specialist's opinion.
