A. As per latest guidelines, breastfeeding mothers can get their Covid vaccine. Covaxin, Covishield and Sputnik V have passed necessary safety tests and WHO's standard of efficacy. None of the clinical trials has involved lactating mothers yet. But these vaccines are considered safe by WHO and leading doctors of our country as they do not involve injecting a live virus into the body. Lactating women can safely continue to feed their kids before and after vaccination. Vaccinated lactating mothers could offer Covid 19 antibodies to their babies as long as they continue to feed them, offering natural immunity to newborns. But please contact your nearest doctor before taking the decision to be vaccinated.
