A. It sounds like your child may be taking longer than expected to start walking. It's common for some children to start walking between 9 to 18 months. Here are a few steps you can take to encourage your child to start walking: 1. **Encourage Standing and Cruising**: Help your child stand while holding onto furniture or your hands. Encourage them to cruise along the furniture to build confidence and balance. 2. **Create a Safe Environment**: Make sure the area where your child practices walking is safe, free from sharp edges, and with a soft surface in case of falls. 3. **Offer Support and Praise**: Hold your child's hands and gently guide them to take steps. Encourage them and offer lots of praise when they make attempts to walk. 4. **Use Push Toys**: Push toys or walking toys can help your child practice balance and walking. Make sure the toy is stable and won't tip over. 5. **Barefoot Practice**: Allow your child to practice walking barefoot. This helps improve their balance and coordination. 6. **Check for Medical Concerns**: If your child is over 18 months and not showing signs of walking or has other developmental concerns, consider consulting a pediatrician or a child development specialist. They can assess whether there are any underlying issues or if your child just needs more time. If your son is not walking yet but is within the typical age range for walking, he may just need more time to develop at his own pace. However, if you have specific concerns or notice any other developmental delays, it’s a good idea to seek professional advice.
