A. Darkness of the neck (often called acanthosis nigricans) can be due to several reasons, including: Common Causes: Insulin resistance (common in PCOS, diabetes) Obesity Hormonal changes Poor hygiene or friction Certain medications Genetics Home Remedies You Can Try: Baking Soda Scrub Mix baking soda and water (3:1 ratio) Apply for 10 minutes, then scrub gently Do this 2–3 times a week Aloe Vera Gel Apply fresh aloe vera gel to the neck Leave for 20 minutes and wash off Use daily Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) Mix ACV and water (1:1 ratio) Apply with cotton, leave for 10 minutes, then wash Use 3 times a week (moisturize afterward) Potato Juice Grate and squeeze potato, apply the juice Leave for 15 minutes, wash off Natural bleaching effect, safe for daily use Lemon Juice & Honey Mask Mix equal amounts, apply for 20 minutes Wash off (don’t use lemon if you’ll be in the sun) Lifestyle Tips: Control weight if overweight Check blood sugar levels if unsure Moisturize daily Avoid harsh soaps/friction around neck area If it doesn't improve in a few weeks or is spreading, it’s good to get checked for hormonal issues like PCOS or diabetes.
