for the child to learn self serve food in childs seperate plate encourage meal time with family , show by ur example
avoid gadets at meal time

As they have hand to mouth cordination they eventually and slowly start learning to pick themselves and eat.
You can also imitate and eat simultanously so out of curiousity they'll learn
