POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 9 yr old boy1 Year agoA. It's understandable to be concerned when you notice unusual behaviors in your baby, like rolling their eyes up or back, especially during sleep. In general, eye-rolling in infants can happen, especially in the early stages of development, and it may not necessarily be something to worry about. However, there are a few points to consider: 1. Normal Development: At around 4 months, babies are still developing their motor skills and reflexes. Sometimes, eye-rolling can occur as part of this process, especially when they're falling asleep or in deep sleep stages. 2. Reaction to Feeding: If this behavior is happening right after feeding, it could be related to the position your baby is in, or even the baby’s reaction to being full or tired. Sometimes babies will move their eyes during feeding or as they drift off to sleep. 3. Overstimulation or Fatigue: Eye movements, including rolling back or upwards, can happen when babies are overstimulated or overly tired. If this behavior happens when your baby is trying to sleep, it could simply be a sign of exhaustion. 4. Medical Concerns: While it's often normal, persistent or severe eye-rolling, especially if accompanied by other symptoms like jerking movements, muscle stiffness, or a lack of responsiveness, could be a sign of an underlying issue like seizures or neurological concerns. However, this is quite rare. It’s best to monitor the behavior closely. If this continues or you notice any other unusual symptoms (such as muscle rigidity, stiffness, or excessive crying), I recommend consulting with your pediatrician to rule out any concerns and ensure your baby’s health and development are on track.
