A. Hello mommy, What can I do to encourage my child to stop thumb sucking? Use positive reinforcement. Praise your child or provide small rewards — such as an extra bedtime story or a trip to the park — when he or she isn't thumb sucking. ... Identify triggers. ... Offer gentle reminders. The following reasons are some of the most common things to look out for if your baby refuses the bottle: Your baby was recently weaned and wants to continue breastfeeding. Your baby isn't hungry enough to want feeding. Your baby is feeling sick, colicky, or otherwise unwell enough to feed.
