Q.

Hi… My 1 month old baby has not gained proper weight. Her weight at birth was 2.7kg and current weight is 3.1kg. Is my breast milk not sufficient for her? She is having more than 10-12 wet nappies per day. Should I give her formula milk? Please suggest.

A. The first month of life was a period of rapid growth. Your baby will gain about 1 to 1½ inches (2.5 to 3.8 centimeters) in length this month and about 2 more pounds (907 grams) in weight. These are just averages — your baby may grow somewhat faster or slower.
