A. If your 16-day-old baby’s breasts appear larger, it could be due to several normal reasons: 1. Hormonal Changes: Newborns can experience breast engorgement due to maternal hormones passed through the placenta during pregnancy. This can cause both boys and girls to have enlarged breast tissue temporarily. 2. Normal Development: It's common for infants to have some breast tissue swelling as part of normal growth and development. This is usually benign and will resolve on its own. 3. Mastitis or Infection: In rare cases, if there are signs of redness, swelling, warmth, or if your baby seems to be in pain, it could indicate a more serious issue like an infection or mastitis, which would require medical attention. Recommendations: Observation: Monitor the situation for any additional symptoms such as redness or discharge. Consult a Pediatrician: If you're concerned or if the swelling persists, it's best to consult your pediatrician for reassurance and to rule out any other issues. Additional Resources: For more detailed information, you can refer to the following sources: Mayo Clinic on Baby Breast Enlargement HealthyChildren.org on Newborn Breast Issues If you notice any worrying symptoms or if you have concerns about your baby's health, don't hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider.
