Steaming keeps more of the nutrients in.
steam the food in a little bit of water just until soft enough to puree. Also, use the water the food is cooked in if necessary during pureeing.

Transfer them to a food processor and make a smooth puree. You can also place the tender apple cubes in a sterilized bowl, and mash them with a spoon for a slightly chunky texture.Apples need to either be steamed and puréed or roasted until they have a smoosh-able texture, or served raw in thin enough pieces that they won't pose a choking hazard — think grated or very thinly sliced.
