A. At around 9 years old, your son may be due for several important vaccinations to help keep him protected as he grows. Common vaccines recommended at this age include the Tdap booster (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) to reinforce immunity from earlier childhood shots, and the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which helps prevent certain cancers and is typically started between ages 9 to 12. Additionally, the annual flu vaccine is recommended every year for children to protect against seasonal influenza. Depending on your country’s vaccination schedule and his previous immunizations, your doctor might also recommend other boosters or catch-up vaccines, such as the meningococcal vaccine. It’s best to consult your pediatrician to review his vaccination history and ensure all doses are up to date for optimal protection.
