no..teethers are not bad..
you can use silicon or wooden based teething rings while your kid is undergoing Teething phase..
gently massage the gum pad area with clean finger tip or moist cold cotton cloth

Or better give baby some soft watable to chew like soft roti, cheela, long thick slice of carrot, cucumber, peeled apple, banana or fruit filled nibblers as a natural teether. Just make sure they are being monitored while they nibble on fruits to prevent them from choking. Avoid giving very tiny things that they cannot grab between gums. My baby is 8 months old and I am making him hold fruit slices since hes 6 month. His hand coordination is so good that now he can pick single seed of pomegranate as well using pincer grasp and he already know how to remove on his own any big piece he bite on of apples or banana or chapati/roti every single time .

Just make sure to aboid water filled teethers or if you give them mske sure they are not leaking in any way and once your baby get their teeth , then there are more chances that they can rupture it. Also make sure trethers hv such shape that baby’s outer lip dosent get stretched or rubbed. Eg. round big teether are lill tough to grab
