A. dear parent, weight of 8.5 kg is absolutely normal for 9 months old baby, do not worry. you can surely give ragi porridge to your baby. it's a healthy food. For healthy weight gain, give homemade balanced diet having variety of food groups especially seasonal fruits and vegetables even green leafy vegetables. give top food four times a day and up to three fourth Katori every time. add Ghee to every meal. add powdered nuts like almond, peanuts, cashew nuts, walnuts to baby's food. you can give eggs and other non veg food. use full cream top milk to prepare recipes like porridge, kheer and give as milk products like curd, paneer, cheese. continue to breastfeed baby. avoid giving formula.

A. Hi dear good morning Check if baby is gaining adequate weight. In the initial 3 months, babies put on about 1 kg each month. From 3-6 months, weight gain reduces to 1/2 kg/month. from 6-9 months, it becomes 1/3, and for 9-12 months, it settles to 1/4 kg. the birth weight doubles in the 4th month and triples when they reach 12 months of age. Try to feed for longer duration. 15-20 mins each breast. This way baby will get balanced foremilk and hind milk. Foremilk comes in the beginning for 5-10 mins then comes the hind milk which is rich in fats and can help baby gain weight. So always empty a breast each. Rice one cup Moong dal half cup Dry roast rice for a while until it turns brown in color, next dry roast moong dal for few mins. Add 2-3 jeera and dry roast for few seconds Add 2-3 pepper corns and dry roast for few seconds. Add all these to a blender and make a fine powder and sieve and store in a container. This is the receipt for powder. Slowly after few weeks you can start adding every pulse a new week. After eight months you can dry roast nuts and add to this powder.
