Q.

Hello My daughter Weight was 6 kg at 4 months and at 5 months she is 6 kg and 160gms only. The weight hasn't increased at all in one month!! Is there any problem? She is on breastfeed only. She sucks her thumb alot. Can this reduce her hunger? What can I do to increase her weight? please help.

A. Dear mum, weight of 6.16 kg is normal for 5 months old baby. On an average, if your baby has been gaining at least 500 grams per month and is active, alert, achieving all growth milestones, passing urine more than 7 times in 24 hours then it indicates good health. For healthy weight gain, continue to exclusively breastfeed till 6 months complete. At one episode of breast feeding feed from only one breast so that baby receives fat rich hindmilk which will help in weight gain.
