Q.

Hello , my daughter has been going for swimming since last few days.She is having cold today and her ear drum is swelling a bit, My question - is this something that i should be worry about.

A. Cold most of the time is a viral illness where there could be running nose sneezing along with cough and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration . steam inhalation will also be useful in this . cough needs to be treated with anti allergic and expectorant bronchodilators or antitussives medicine which should be used once a proper evaluation by the doctor is done and according to the type of cough its prescribed. if any fever is there patracetamol can be given to redvuce the temperature and the dose can be repeated again after 6 hours if required .

A. U Should use earplugs when you are putting your child to swimming that is going to be more appropriate and if your child is suffering with cold then you put nasal drops before your child goes for swimming in any antiallergic medicine suggested by your doctor
