A. For a 15-month-old boy, a weight of 8.3 kg is on the lower side, but considering his premature birth and low birth weight, it's important to focus on consistent and gradual weight gain. Here are some steps to help increase his weight: ### Nutrition 1. **High-Calorie Foods**: Include high-calorie, nutrient-dense foods in his diet. Examples are avocado, banana, sweet potatoes, full-fat yogurt, cheese, and nut butters (ensure there are no allergies). 2. **Frequent Meals**: Continue feeding him 4 to 5 times a day but ensure the meals are balanced and rich in nutrients. 3. **Healthy Fats**: Incorporate healthy fats like olive oil, ghee, or coconut oil into his meals. 4. **Protein**: Ensure he gets enough protein from sources like eggs, meat, fish, beans, and lentils. 5. **Snacks**: Offer nutritious snacks like fruit slices, whole-grain crackers, or cheese between meals. ### Hydration 1. **Fluids**: Make sure he is well-hydrated, but avoid filling him up with too much milk or juice before meals to ensure he has an appetite for solid foods. ### Regular Check-Ups 1. **Pediatrician Visits**: Regular visits to the pediatrician are crucial for monitoring growth and development. The pediatrician can provide personalized advice and recommend dietary adjustments or supplements if necessary. 2. **Growth Monitoring**: Keep track of his growth parameters (weight, height, head circumference) and discuss any concerns with the pediatrician. ### Developmental Support 1. **Physical Activity**: Encourage age-appropriate physical activity to build strength and muscle mass. 2. **Stimulation**: Engage him with activities and toys that stimulate his physical and cognitive development. ### Addressing Specific Concerns 1. **Supplements**: If recommended by the pediatrician, provide vitamin or mineral supplements to address any deficiencies. 2. **Medical Conditions**: Ensure any underlying medical conditions are managed as per the pediatrician’s advice. ### Parental Support 1. **Education**: Stay informed about the nutritional needs of premature babies and toddlers. 2. **Support Groups**: Consider joining support groups for parents of premature babies to share experiences and get advice. Consistency and patience are key. Gradual weight gain is better and healthier than rapid weight gain. Always consult with your pediatrician before making significant changes to his diet or routine.
