Relactation, which is restarting breastfeeding after a gap, is certainly possible at this stage and can be beneficial for both you and your baby. Here are some ways you can encourage lactation: 1. Frequent Breastfeeding: Feed your baby as frequently as possible. The suction and skin-to-skin contact stimulates your body to produce prolactin, a hormone that's crucial for milk production. 2. Pumping: In addition to regular nursing, try pumping after or between feedings. This also helps stimulate prolactin and increase milk production. 3. Hydration and Nutrition: Make sure you're drinking plenty of fluids and getting good nutrition. 4. Medications and Herbs: Certain herbs like Fenugreek, as well as prescription medications, can support lactation. Consult your healthcare provider before starting any of these. 5. Consult a Lactation Consultant: They can provide expert advice suitable for your individual situation. While you are trying to relactate, ensure that your baby is getting enough nutrition. Consult with your pediatrician or a lactation consultant to guide you through this process.
