Blocked Tear Duct: A common reason for watery eyes in infants is a blocked tear duct. This occurs when the tear duct is not fully open, leading to tears not draining properly. It often resolves on its own as the duct opens up naturally over time. You can help by gently massaging the area near the corner of the eye, just below the inner corner of the eye near the nose.
Eye Irritation: Sometimes, irritation from dust, dry air, or something getting in the eye can cause watery eyes. If it’s just during crying and not a constant issue, it may not be a big concern.
Infection: If the eye is also red, swollen, or has a discharge (other than tears), it could be a sign of conjunctivitis (pink eye) or an eye infection. In such cases, it’s important to consult your pediatrician.
If this continues or worsens, or if there are signs of infection, it would be a good idea to consult your pediatrician to rule out any underlying issues.
