This is because their kidneys are not yet fully developed to process excess amounts of salt and it can put a strain on their kidneys. Additionally, babies already get the necessary amount of sodium in their diet from breast milk or formula, and from the small amounts present in natural food.
If your baby is on a solid food diet, you can offer food with a natural taste without adding any additional salt to it. Foods that are already high in salt (such as chips, fast food, and processed foods) should be avoided as much as possible in baby's diet.
If you have any concerns or doubts about your baby's diet, it's always wise to check with a pediatrician or a registered dietitian.
