A. kindly applies zytee gel / dologel over the ulcer / paining area in the oral cavity.
you can use your finger to apply the gel and rotate the finger blindly in the oral cavity. do not worry about the ingestion of this gel.
this will only help in decreasing the pain as well as will help in faster healing. it is also advisable to start a multivitamin supplement after consulting the doctor for this problem.b
give fluids / juices in diet to the child.
see that child is not suffering from constipation.
meet dr if not improving j

A. I'm sorry to hear that your 4.5-year-old is experiencing severe mouth ulcers. Here are some steps you can take to help alleviate his discomfort and support his healing:
### Dietary Recommendations
1. **Soft Foods**:
- **Pureed Foods**: Offer pureed or blended foods like applesauce, yogurt, mashed potatoes, and smoothies.
- **Soups and Broths**: Warm (not hot) soups and broths can be soothing and easy to swallow. Ensure they are not too hot to avoid further irritation.
2. **Cool Foods**:
- **Cold Items**: Cold foods like ice cream, yogurt, chilled applesauce, and popsicles can provide some numbing relief.
- **Ice Chips**: Sucking on ice chips can help numb the pain.
3. **Avoid Irritants**:
- **Spicy or Acidic Foods**: Avoid spicy, salty, and acidic foods such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, and vinegar, as these can irritate ulcers.
- **Crunchy Foods**: Avoid foods that might be rough on the mouth, like chips and pretzels.
### Pain Management
1. **Topical Treatments**:
- **Mouth Rinses**: Rinse with a saltwater solution (1 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water) to help reduce bacteria and promote healing.
- **Over-the-Counter Gels**: Use pediatric oral gels or pastes that contain numbing agents like benzocaine to provide temporary pain relief. Consult with your pediatrician before use.
2. **Medications**:
- **Pain Relievers**: Over-the-counter pain medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen can help manage pain. Follow the dosage instructions provided by your pediatrician.
### Hygiene and Healing
1. **Maintain Oral Hygiene**:
- Encourage gentle brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush to keep the mouth clean.
- Avoid mouthwashes with alcohol, as they can cause stinging and further irritation.
2. **Stay Hydrated**:
- Ensure your child drinks plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, which aids in healing. Offer water, diluted juices, and non-citrus herbal teas.
### When to Seek Medical Attention
- If the ulcers persist beyond two weeks.
- If there is significant weight loss or dehydration due to difficulty eating and drinking.
- If the ulcers are accompanied by other symptoms such as high fever, rash, or general illness.
### Consulting a Pediatrician
Since your child is already on antibiotics, it's crucial to keep in touch with your pediatrician for ongoing advice and adjustments to the treatment plan. If the ulcers do not improve or worsen, further medical evaluation may be necessary to rule out other underlying conditions.
For further information on managing mouth ulcers in children, you can refer to reputable health resources like the American Academy of Pediatrics or consult with your healthcare provider.
