Q.

#asktheexperts my son was getting his vaccination as per Assam Gov Health Vaccination chart. Few vaccinations as compared to private vaccination charts are not available in the Gov chart. Now that I am in Bangalore, since I will visit a private clinic for the vaccination, will there be any issue?

A. Switching from a government vaccination schedule to a private clinic schedule generally should not cause any issues for your child’s immunization. However, there are a few important steps to ensure a smooth transition and complete protection: ### Steps to Take 1. **Bring Vaccination Records**: Carry your son's vaccination records when you visit the private clinic. This helps the healthcare provider understand which vaccines have been administered and which are pending. 2. **Consult with the Pediatrician**: Discuss your child’s vaccination history with the pediatrician at the private clinic. They can help align the vaccination schedule and make up for any missing vaccines. 3. **Catch-Up Vaccination**: The pediatrician may recommend catch-up vaccinations if your child has missed any vaccines that are recommended but not included in the government schedule. ### Common Vaccines in Private Schedule Not in Government Schedule - **Rotavirus Vaccine**: Often recommended to prevent severe diarrhea in infants. - **Pneumococcal Vaccine (PCV)**: Protects against pneumococcal diseases like pneumonia, meningitis, and sepsis. - **Influenza Vaccine**: Recommended annually to protect against the flu. - **Hepatitis A Vaccine**: Protects against Hepatitis A virus. ### Ensure Comprehensive Coverage 1. **Follow the Updated Schedule**: Follow the new vaccination schedule provided by the private clinic to ensure comprehensive immunization coverage. 2. **Regular Follow-Ups**: Maintain regular follow-ups with the pediatrician to keep track of upcoming vaccinations. ### Financial and Logistical Considerations - **Cost**: Be aware that vaccines in private clinics may be more expensive than those provided by government programs. - **Availability**: Confirm the availability of all recommended vaccines at the private clinic. ### Record Keeping - **Maintain Updated Records**: Keep an updated record of all vaccinations received, including dates and types of vaccines. - **Digital Records**: Consider maintaining a digital copy of your child’s vaccination records for easy access and backup. By following these steps and working closely with your pediatrician, you can ensure your son continues to receive all necessary vaccinations without any issues.
