#asktheexperts my daughter has a persistent cough since the last two months. have shown doctors but the syrups are not working. one doctor has prescribed a steroid. is it safe to give steroids to toddlers

A. Cough is a protective reflex of the body to expel out the mucus or any irritant factor from the respiratory tract which is most of the time assosiated with cold due to any viral or bacterial infection . A proper examination is required to find the cause . As a home remedy you canhi start with steam inhalation . Cough can be treated with cough suppressant or antitussives as per the cause. Ftor cold antihistamines are useful and nasal saline drops are also benifecial .

A. good afternoon it is definitely not required to give steroid to the child I will recommend you to give the other medicines as prescribed but it is not advisable that you should give any steroids to your child
