POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy6 months agoA. It’s common for babies to favor one breast over the other, but if your baby is completely refusing the left side, here are some possible reasons and solutions:
Possible Reasons Comfort & Positioning – Your baby might feel uncomfortable due to a stiff neck (torticollis) or ear infection on that side. Difference in Milk Flow – If the left side has slower or faster flow, your baby may prefer the other side. Blocked Duct or Engorgement – If your left breast is hard, painful, or swollen, the baby may struggle to latch. Preference Development – Some babies naturally develop a side preference. What You Can Do
✅ Try Different Positions – Feed in a football hold or side-lying position to trick your baby into latching on the left side.
✅ Offer Left Breast First – When your baby is sleepy or very hungry, start with the left side.
✅ Switch-Feeding – Let the baby start on the right (preferred side) and then quickly shift to the left when relaxed.
✅ Breast Compression – Squeeze the left breast gently to stimulate more flow while feeding.
✅ Check for Lumps or Pain – If you feel any hardness or pain, massage and use warm compresses before feeding.
✅ Consult a Pediatrician – If your baby has a stiff neck, ear infection, or discomfort, medical guidance is needed.
If your baby continues to refuse, you can pump from the left breast to maintain supply while trying to reintroduce direct feeding. Let me know if you need more specific help!
