POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy4 months agoA. If your 9-day-old son is refusing to breastfeed and your breasts feel softer than before, it could be a sign that:
He is not feeding effectively or frequently enough. Your milk supply might be reducing due to low stimulation. He could be sleepy, unwell, or having latching issues.
At this age, newborns typically feed every 2–3 hours. Check for signs of dehydration like fewer than 6 wet diapers in 24 hours, dry mouth, or lethargy. Soft breasts can also mean he has already fed well or your supply is adjusting, which is normal.
What you can do:
Try to wake him gently for feeds every 2–3 hours. Offer skin-to-skin contact to encourage feeding. Express milk and feed it with a spoon or dropper if he still refuses. See a pediatrician urgently to rule out any health issues and ensure he’s getting enough nutrients.
