#asktheexperts Dear Doctor , my girl baby is 2 years 2 months old and she is not vaccinated for pneumonia . Before four months she has been hospitalized for pneumonia . kindly advise if pneumonia vaccine is necessary and for how many years the vaccine protects the baby or the vaccine is for life long

A. pcv which also stands for pneumococcal vaccine is a very important vaccine and is mandatory for all children. at present the vaccine is that much important that the indian government is giving it now free of cost in regular vaccination schedule. meet your doctor who will tell you the schedule for pneumococcal vaccine. even if it was missed previously you can go for it now also. this vaccine prevents infection due to pneumococcal bacteria which can affect the brain throat chest the child vaccination the child will get at least immunity for lifetime
