POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy4 months agoA. If your baby is suffering from cold, cough, and fever, it’s important to keep them comfortable and watch for signs of any complications. Here are some precautions and home care tips to help:
1. Keep Baby Hydrated: For babies under 6 months: Continue breastfeeding or formula feeding frequently. Older babies (6+ months): Offer small sips of warm water, breast milk, or clear liquids. 2. Manage Fever: If your baby has a fever above 100.4°F (38°C): Give paracetamol (like Crocin Drops) in the correct dose based on weight and age (only under doctor’s advice). Do not give ibuprofen unless prescribed. Use a lukewarm sponge bath if fever is high or your baby is uncomfortable. 3. Relieve Nasal Congestion: Use saline nasal drops (safe for babies) and a nasal aspirator to clear the nose. Use a cool mist humidifier in the room to keep air moist. Elevate the baby’s head slightly while sleeping (not for newborns) to help breathing. 4. Treat Cough: Babies under 1 year: Avoid honey or cough syrups. Try using warm steam (like sitting in a steamy bathroom for a few minutes) to ease the cough. For older babies: A small amount of warm water with tulsi or ajwain water (after 8–10 months) can help. 5. Keep Baby Comfortable: Dress in light, breathable clothes – not too many layers. Ensure the baby gets enough rest and sleep. Avoid taking the baby out in cold or polluted environments. 6. Maintain Hygiene: Wash hands before touching the baby. Avoid visitors or people with infections around the baby. Regularly clean baby’s toys, pacifiers, and surfaces. 7. When to See a Doctor: Fever lasts more than 2–3 days Baby is not feeding well Breathing becomes fast or difficult Continuous crying or signs of pain Vomiting or diarrhea Baby is unusually drowsy or inactive
