A. Umbilical discharge in a newborn baby can be normal, especially within the first few weeks of life as the umbilical cord stump heals and falls off. However, if the discharge is excessive, foul-smelling, or accompanied by redness, swelling, or tenderness around the umbilical area, it could be a sign of infection. If you notice any concerning symptoms, it's best to contact your pediatrician for guidance. They can assess the situation and provide appropriate advice or treatment if needed. In the meantime, keep the umbilical area clean and dry, and avoid covering it with tight clothing or diapers to allow for proper airflow and healing.
