A. A low-lying placenta after 20 weeks of pregnancy can be very serious as there is a risk of severe bleeding and this may threaten the health and life of the mother and baby. If the placenta covers the entrance to the womb (cervix) entirely after 20 weeks, this is known as major placenta praevia.
