Q.

#AskTheExpert My son is 1 month 10 days old. Earlier he used to feed from me for 30-45 minutes. Now, he feeds for 10-15 mins. When I feed him, he goes to sleep and keeps sleeping. When he wakes up, again he takes feed for less minutes. At night also, it happens. And my breasts produce more milk than he takes. Sometimes, it pains. What could be the reason? What should I do about it?

A. Oversupply can occur naturally, but it can also be created by overstimulating the breasts in the early days and weeks of breastfeeding. Pumping milk from the beginning is often encouraged with the idea that it may help establish a milk supply.
