POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy2 years agoA. Vitiligo (vih-tih-LY-go) is a loss of skin pigment, or color, that causes white spots or patches on the skin. While vitiligo might make kids self-conscious, this skin condition is not medically dangerous. It's not a form of skin cancer, it's not an infection like MRSA, and it's not contagious.Vitiligo is caused by the lack of a pigment called melanin in the skin. Melanin is produced by skin cells called melanocytes, and it gives your skin its colour. In vitiligo, there are not enough working melanocytes to produce enough melanin in your skin. This causes white patches to develop on your skin or hair.Deficiencies in calcium, vitamin D and vitamin E can cause white patches on the skin. While harmless, these white spots indicate that you need to eat a healthy, balanced diet. You don't need to worry about small white bumps that form on your newborn's skin. These are normal. Milia is a harmless condition that temporarily affects your appearance and the texture of your skin. The condition doesn't need treatment and usually goes away on its own after a few weeks.
