A. If your child is suffering from a dry cough and cold, there are several things you can do to help ease their symptoms and provide comfort: 1. Hydration: Ensure your child drinks plenty of fluids like water, warm herbal teas, or broths. Hydration helps thin the mucus and soothe the throat. 2. Use a Humidifier: A cool-mist humidifier can help add moisture to the air, which can relieve dry coughs and ease congestion, especially during sleep. 3. Saline Nasal Spray: For congestion, you can use a saline nasal spray or saline drops to help clear the nasal passages. 4. Honey (for Children over 1 year): If your child is over 1 year old, honey can help soothe the throat and reduce coughing. A teaspoon of honey in warm water or tea can be beneficial. 5. Warm Fluids: Warm liquids like soup, warm water with honey and lemon, or chamomile tea can help soothe the throat and ease the cough. 6. Elevate the Head: If your child is having trouble sleeping, try elevating the head of their bed slightly to reduce coughing during sleep. 7. Avoid Irritants: Keep your child away from smoke, strong odors, or allergens that may irritate their throat and worsen the cough. 8. Monitor Symptoms: If your child's symptoms persist for more than 5-7 days, or if they develop a high fever, trouble breathing, or seem lethargic, consult your pediatrician to rule out any infections like a bacterial infection or flu. 9. Cough Medications (Only under Guidance): For children over the age of 6, some pediatricians may recommend specific cough syrups. But, always consult your doctor before giving any over-the-counter medicine to children. When to See a Doctor: If your child’s cough lasts for more than a week, becomes more severe, or if they experience other concerning symptoms like fever, difficulty breathing, or wheezing, consult your pediatrician immediately.
