A. Cradle cap, also known as seborrheic dermatitis, is a common condition in infants characterized by flaky, scaly patches on the scalp. Here’s how you can manage it: 1. **Gentle Cleansing**: Wash your baby’s scalp regularly with a mild baby shampoo. This helps to remove the scales and keep the scalp clean. 2. **Soft Brushing**: After washing, gently brush the scalp with a soft baby brush to help loosen and remove the flakes. 3. **Apply Oil**: Applying a small amount of natural oil (like coconut oil or olive oil) to the scalp can help soften the scales. Apply the oil before washing, leave it on for about 15-30 minutes, then wash it out. You can also apply a small amount of oil to the scalp after washing if you find it helps maintain moisture, but ensure the scalp is dry before applying it. 4. **Avoid Overuse**: Be cautious with oil application. Overuse of oil can sometimes exacerbate the condition. 5. **Consult a Pediatrician**: If cradle cap persists, worsens, or spreads, consult your pediatrician. They might recommend a medicated shampoo or other treatments if necessary. Regular care and monitoring should help manage and reduce the occurrence of cradle cap.
