Q.

#AskTheExpert My baby is 26days old, she is taking the mother feeding well. But most of the time I am feeling pain in my nipples, that is the reason I am forced to give her formula. Any suggestions to get rid of this nipples pain? Thanks

A. Apply cold compresses to the breasts between feedings helps the swelling decrease. You can also use bag of frozen peas or cold cabbage leaves. Massaging your breasts help in milk flow. Wear a correct fitting breastfeeding bra and avoid underwire bras. Apply warm compresses and take warm showers or lean your breasts over warm water before you feed the baby.

A. Ensure that the baby is positioned properly during a feed. Ensure that the baby latches correctly. Lubricate the nipple by expressing milk. After a feed, ensure that the nipples are dry. If your nipples are bleeding, use a nipple shield.
